Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun state governor: fulfils a promise to workers

The money will also cover the deductions from salaries that have affected both state and local government workers.

Prior to the downturn in the Federal allocation and economy, the State Government had remitted salary deductions as at when due. The present administration also cleared the arrears inherited from the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

In a statement issued today and signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the payment was in fulfilment of the agreement reached between the governor and the state workers during an interactive session he had with them in March.

The State Government said that the release of the money demonstrates that it has successfully adjusted to the new financial reality and it was confident that it would be able to clear the balance of arrears expeditiously.

It further assured the workers that government will always protect their interests at all times and restated the fact that it has no plan to sack any worker.

The financial adjustment, government stated, “was achieved through increased spending efficiencies and enhanced focus on Internally Generated Revenue ,IGR”.

The government further expressed gratitude to the workers for their patience, understanding and co-operation since the administration assumed office, particularly, when the economic downturn led to delay in the remittance of the deductions and co-operative dues.

Findings by our correspondent confirmed the payment as many of the workers in the State, especially, teachers revealed that they have been receiving messages from the their banks since around 7:00pm Thursday night.

Some even posted comments of the payment on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
