Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s president has sent a message of congratulations to the wife of the President-elect, Hajia Aisha Buhari, on the election of her husband, Muhammadu Buhari.
According to a statement by her Media Assistant, Mr Ayo Adewuyi, in Abuja, Mrs Jonathan urged Nigerian women to work with Mrs Buhari and give her the maximum support.
Her message spoke about Aisha’s ‘new assignment’, suggesting she was trying to cast Buhari’s wife in her present role as ‘First Lady’.
President-elect, General Buhari had said his wife would not play such visible, ‘unconstitutional role’. And Aisha had also defined her role to be to keep the home front and receiving guests to the First Family.
Mrs. Jonathan wished Aisha well in her new task.
Both ladies had campaigned for their husbands. When Patience Jonathan expressed fears that General Buhari would jail her, Aisha responded that Patience should not be afraid as her husband will not jail her.
