Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC began the official release of the presidential election held across the country on 28 March, with some voting allowed till sunday 29 March.
Regarded as the closest election ever fought since Nigeria’s return to civil rule in 1999, it has the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan, facing former military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
Despite anomalies reported in some states, such as Akwa Ibom and Rivers State, Professor Attahiru Jega set the ball rolling for the formal announcement of the results, state-by-state.
The results of seven states were ready he said.
Professor Adebiyi Ademola, vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure and also the returning officer for Ekiti state read out the results of the state, declaring PDP candidate, the winner with 176,466 votes.
Buhari scored 120,331 votes.
Professor Duro Oni read the Ogun state result. Victory went to the APC candidate, with 308,270 votes. The PDP candidate scored 207,950 votes.
Results from Enugu state showed Jonathan winning 553,003 votes. Buhari won a paltry 14,157 votes.
