Amaechi declares curfew in Rivers

The Rivers State government has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state with effect from Monday 30th March 2015.

In a statement signed by the,George Feyii, Secretary to the state government said consequently,residents in the state are by this announcement advised to observe the declaration of the from the hours of 7.00pm – 6.00am to forestall any break down of law and order in the state and to ensure protection of lives and property of Law abiding citizens.

“This CURFEW will subsist until further notice”, government said.

There has been tension in the state since Saturday 28 March, following widespread irregularities and violence that marred the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

APC supporters protested to INEC office in the city and submitted a petition calling for the cancellation of the election.

Today, women cladded in black also staged another protest, but were dispersed by the police with teargas.

INEC office in Emohua in local government has been burnt but unidentified persons.
