Loic Remy came in with the midas touch to secure all three points for Chelsea in a thrilling 3-2 win at Hull City in a Premier League match on Sunday.

The French striker scored with virtually his first touch after coming on for Diego Costa, who went off injured though the extent is unconfirmed for now.

It capped what was an enthralling encounter which began in blistering manner, with Eden Hazard putting the Blues ahead after just two minutes, shooting a fierce effort in from 20 yards after being set up by Costa.

Hull almost got back in the game two minutes later, but striker Abel Hernandez saw his effort kept out by Thibaut Courtois who came out from goal after Hernandez was put through on goal by Dame N’Doye.

By the ninth minute, the game was taken farther from the Tigers’ grasp when Hazard won possession in midfield and Cesc Fabregas set Costa up to curl in Chelsea’s second.

However Hull remained buoyant despite going two goals down and following a spell of pressure which included an N’Doye free kick being kept out by Courtois, intricate play and a stroke of luck saw Hull level scores with two goals in two minutes before the half-hour mark.

First Ahmed Elmohamady tapped in a Robertson cross to pull one back in the 26th minute, before a lapse in concentration from Courtois gifted the Tigers the equaliser two minutes later.

A back pass from Branislav Ivanovic was poorly controlled by Courtois, with his first touch too heavy and falling to Hernandez who slid home to get Hull back in the contest.

The second half saw Chelsea regroup in search of a goal, with Hazard orchestrating the relentless pressure from the Blues who however were unable to find a way through.

Hull somehow failed to take the lead against the run of play, when Courtois managed to make a triple save from Elmohamady, Jake Livermore and Gaston Ramirez just after the hour mark.

But with Hull gaining control of the encounter, Remy’s introduction effectively settled matters at the KC stadium, as the Frenchman poked in Willian’s ball in to get a crucial win for Jose Mourinho’s men.

The result sees Chelsea restore a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings with 67 points with a game in hand as the season winds to a close.

Elsewhere in the Premier League on Sunday, Aaron Lennon scored the winner as Everton came away from Loftus Road with a 2-1 win over relegation threatened Queens Park Rangers.

Everton was looking to bounce back from exit in the Europa League on Thursday and Seamus Coleman set the Toffees on their way with an 18th minute strike at the end of good team play.

Junior Hoilett came close to bringing QPR back in the game but saw his effort come off the crossbar four minutes into the second half, with the scored rebound ruled out for offside.

Eduardo Vargas though managed to level for the Royals on the 65th minute, lashing in a loose ball in the area off a blocked Sandro shot in.

Everton would edge the thrilling contest when a Coleman ball in found its way to Lennon who scored from close range.

Substitute Adel Taarabt was denied by the crossbar as QPR tried to level again, but Everton held on for a win which takes the Merseyside club nine points clear of the relegation zone.
