Buhari: APC presidential candidate visited Chibok after he left Maiduguri

Many admirers of General Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, as well as residents of Chibok, Borno State in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, got emotional Monday night after the former Head of State visited the town where over 200 school girls were abducted by the Boko Haram sect nearly one year ago.

The government of President Goodluck Jonathan has several times been castigated and condemned for refusing to visit the aggrieved parents since the incident happened.

Instead, it took the President several months to invite families of the abducted to the country’s seat of power in Abuja where he commiserated with them.

During the last media chat he had with journalists, President Jonathan assured that some of the girls would be recovered but said some of them must have been bitten by snakes while the insurgents transported them through the forest to various locations.

Even as he gave the assurances, he said he must not be quoted and therefore refused to give a specific time he thinks the girls would return.

Just after the end of his campaign rally in Maiduguri on Monday, Buhari embarked on the journey to Chibok despite the refusal of the Joint Task Force to accompany him as contained in a Facebook post on the ‘Buhari 2015′ fan page on Tuesday.

The refusal of the JTF to provide security for Buhari was said to have been because the officers did not get clearance from Abuja.

“We left for Chibok in spite of JTF’s refusal to go along with us. Good must triumph over evil.

“I was personally moved when I came out and saw thousands of Civilian JTF members, who had volunteered to provide security for us,” Buhari, who received a rousing welcome in the town, said while thanking the people of Chibok for coming out in their thousands to support him and his party.

“Once again, I am assuring the Chibok community that we are standing with them and if elected to power, we will do all things possible to eradicate insurgency in the country and facilitate the return of our daughters,” the APC candidate said.
