The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured all voters captured in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) that they will get their Permanent Voter Cards before the forthcoming elections.

The Chief Press Secretary to INEC, Mr Kayode Idowu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday that the cards were being printed by the commission.

He said that there was no basis for agitation or anxiety that those recently captured in the commission’s CVR would not get their PVCs.

“The commission wouldn’t have done the continuous voter registration, if it wasn’t convinced that registered voters will get their cards.

“Those whose data are duly capture in the CVR should be rest assured that the commission is producing those cards and will be distributed to them when the cards are ready,’’ he said.

According to him, everything is being done to ensure that all registered voters get their permanent voter cards.

He said that each state had the mandates to do all it could to ensure that people collect their cards within the framework put in place, adding “this is what we have been doing’’.

“In FCT, the collection centre has been decentralised. For instance, in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), the collection centre used to be in Karu, but it has been decentralised.

“You can now pick your card at Area 10, Karu and some other areas’’.

He urged registered voters yet to collect their cards to go to designated units and collect them.

The INEC’s Deputy Director, Voter Education and Publicity Unit, Mr Nick Dazang, told NAN that INEC was doing its best to ensure voters get their PVCs.

Dazang said that INEC had decentralised the distribution points in AMAC to 12 units, adding that similar exercise was carried out in other five area councils.

“We are still distributing until Jan. 31,’’ Dazang said.

He also urged any voter who was yet to get his or her PVC to do so, adding: “this is very important because it is the PVC that will be used for the 2015 general elections’’.
