Dimeji Bankole: supporters kick against Isiaka

A group believed to be loyal to the Former Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole, has kicked against the choice of Mr Gboyega Isiaka as the party’s governorship candidate.

Isiaka was announced at a meeting held in Ijebu Igbo today by the State Chairman of the Party, Mr Bayo Dayo.

Dayo informed party leaders and members that the national leadership of the party had finally settled for the candidature of Mr Gboyega Isiaka who emerged winner in the governorship primary conducted by the PDP in Abeokuta ,the state capital on December 8.

In a swift reaction, the group, loyal to the former speaker, said this would not be allowed to stay as other interested parties in the matter had not been carried along and they asked for status quo to be maintained until every interested party agreed on a consensus candidate.

Our correspondent in Ogun state reported yesterday that over 100,000 supporters of the former speaker may join the Unity Party of Nigeria,UPN before the end of this week.

He said several meetings have been going on between the group and the leadership of the UPN in the State.

Also, there was a strong indication that eight members from the ten Peoples Democratic Party,PDP at the Ogun State House of Assembly may be on their way out of the party to join the new party.

Bankole and eight other aspirants had boycotted the last December 8 governorship primary election of the PDP in the State.
