The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) on Thursday said it planned to build 57 new parks and gardens in the state.

Mr Olajide Sanusi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the agency, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that each of the Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) would get one.

According to him, the additional facilities will be categorised based on their locations.

“There will be an Ajaco Park at Alimosho LCDA, Ikorodu Parks and Gardens at Ikorodu LCDA and Badagry Parks and Gardens at the LCDA among others.

“As the sites for the parks and gardens are sited, they will be made known to the public.

“Some will be built directly by the Agency and some by private organisations,’’ he said.

Sanusi promised that the facilities would be maintained regularly as provided by extant maintenance rules.

He said that the idea of building more parks and gardens was to change the people’s orientation towards recreational activities.

The PRO noted that the objective was being achieved gradually as Lagosians have started imbibing the culture of relaxation.

According to him, available statistics at the agency show that about 5000 people visit the Ndubisi Kanu and the Ministry of Environment (MOE) Parks at Alausa, Ikeja weekly.

He said that those interested in using the public event halls within the facilities have been applying to the agency.
