The primaries conducted yesterday in Ijebu Central Federal Constituency ( Ijebu Ode, Ijebu North East and Odogbolu), Ijebu North,Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside federal constituency and Abeokuta South Federal constituencies were marred with a lot of irregularities which resulted into crisis that made the elections inconclusive in those areas.

In a statement Monday morning by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Senator Timothy Adudu, the party stated that the rescheduled primary elections are aimed at creating a level playing field for all the aspirants and give opportunity for the qualified delegates to freely make their choice.

The party, however appealed to all its members and the general public to co-operate with the Organising Committee in charge of the primary elections, so that the image of the party as a truly progressive platform can further be projected.

Trouble broke out in the two Ijebu Federal constituencies between supporters of some aspirants actively enjoying the support of Governor Ibikunle Amosun and other aspirants not so favoured.

In Ijebu-Ode, voting was deliberately disrupted at the tail of the exercise, when it was clear that Engr. Kunle Ottun was coasting home to victory against Governor Amosun’s most favoured aspirant, Olugbenga Otenuga.

The Policemen sent to keep peace at the Itoro Hall venue of the primary, teargassed delegates and observers. No fewer than seven persons fainted at the venue, including the House of Reps member, Kehinde Odeneye. They were rushed to a nearby hospital to be revived.
