Nigeria’s Armed Forces on Monday distanced themselves from Police Inspector-General Suleiman Abba by recognising Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Tambuwal, now the APC governorship candidate for Sokoto state, was duly recognised as speaker at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja where President Goodluck Jonathan launched the emblem for the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.
The IG had withdrawn Tambuwal’s security details on October 30 two days after he defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
But the Armed Forces, in their programme for the emblem launch on Monday addressed Tambuwal as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
The programme of the event themed “Appreciating the Nigerian Armed Forces” contained the photograph of Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as Speaker, House of Representatives.
Abba had also refused to recognise Tambuwal as speaker on November 26 when the House Committee on Police Matters summoned him to explain why some of his men blocked Tambuwal and other lawmakers from gaining access into the parliament building and later tear-gassed them.
One reader of the Daily Trust commented; “Abba Suleiman’s end will be worst than former IG Tafa Balogun” and another said, Abba was being overzealous to satisfy President Goodluck Jonathan.
