The Transformation Cup will go to the winner of today’s friendly match between Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles and the U-23 national team of Ghana at the Akwa-Ibom Stadium in Uyo.

This was revealed by match commissioner Paul Bassey ahead of the encounter between the West African rivals, which has been organised to mark the opening of the new 30,000-seater stadium.

As a result, the match would go straight to penalty shoot-out in the event of both sides playing out a draw after 90 minutes, with the winners to also be given gold medals along with the trophy.

Bassey also stated the trophy would be returned to the custody of Akwa Ibom State for the purpose of holding an annual Transformation Cup match at the stadium afterwards.

The match will kick-off at 8p.m local time and would also serve as a test-run for Nigeria’s 2015 African Cup of Nations final qualifying match against South Africa next weekend.
