The 2015 African Cup of Nations will carry on as scheduled from January 17 according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) despite fears over the ebola viral disease.

Host nation Morocco had requested for a postponement of the competition but Africa’s football governing body have reiterated there will not be any postponement and have given Morocco until November 8 to make their position clear.

A statement from CAF read “The meeting of the CAF executive committee in Algiers on Sunday considered the request from the ministry of youth and sports in Morocco for a postponement and was unanimous on keeping the competition on the dates scheduled.”

CAF also stated that it has ”asked the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to clarify the position of Morocco by no later than 8 November. Time given to Morocco applies to other associations wishing to organize AFCON on dates agreed, as long as hosting requirements are met.”

The African body previously met with seven other nations to consider hosting the competition in the event Morocco withdraws its hosting rights, among which are South Africa and Ghana.

A final decision on a host nation for AFCON 2015 will be made on November 11 by the CAF Executive Committee in Cairo, Egypt.
