The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday described as a miscarriage of justice the acquittal of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, of all 54-count charge bordering on looting and money laundering to the tune of N700m by the Federal High Court, Lagos Division.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Taofik Gani, in a statement made available to Political Platform, called on the National Judicial Council to probe the judgment.
Gani hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for its decision to appeal the judgement.
He noted that the EFCC was able to show that the Speaker breached banking regulations in the manner of the withdrawals from public treasury.
He added that it was a miscarriage of justice for the 54-count charge to be dismissed as inconsequential.
Gani berated the state House of Assembly, which is populated with members of the All Progressives Congress, for celebrating the decision.
According to him, “In the last few days, we studied the Federal High Court, Lagos Division, judgement acquitting Hon. Ikuforiji and we hold that the judgement is a miscarriage of justice that should even interest the NJC. The Lagos Division of the FHC is indeed burdened at this time. We are, however, satisfied that the EFCC has appealed the judgement. This is good to restore hope in the people that no public looting will go unpunished.”
