Romelu Lukaku scored a goal at former club West Brom as Everton came away from The Hawthornes with a 2-0 win while Graziano Pelle scored a brace in Southampton’s 4-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

It took only two minutes for Lukaku to put Everton ahead, taking advantage off poor defending from Jonas Olsson to lash in an effort from 18 yards out.

The goal was Lukaku’s first in the Premier League scored for a club he is not on loan at, with the previous 32 goals scored while a Chelsea player on loan at West Brom and at Everton over the last two seasons.

West Brom threatened afterwards but efforts from Saido Berahino, Craig Gardner and Brown Ideye failed to test Tim Howard as Everton went into the break a goal up.

The Baggies’ wasted efforts were punished in the 66th minute when Kevin Mirallas strike somehow squirmed under Ben Foster into the West Brom goal.

Howard ensured Everton finished the match with a cleansheet by denying Berahino and substitute Giorgios Samaras as the visitors held on to claim a first league win of the season.

Sunderland’s Pelle

Elsewhere, Graziano Pelle continued his good start to life in the Premier League, scoring twice in the opening 19 minutes to help Southampton to the demolition of Newcastle United at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The first came after six minutes when he headed in a Ryan Bertrand cross before extending the lead in the 19th minute, latching on to a bad pass by Mike Williamson before tapping home off a return pass from Dusan Tadic.

Jack Cork then beat Williamson to the ball before rounding Tim Krul to make it 3-0 for Southampton in the 54th minute while Morgan Schneiderlin wrapped up the rout with a curling effort in stoppage time.

The win put Southampton in third place with seven points, five points behind leaders Chelsea that came fom a goal down to defeat second placed Swansea City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

In other matches, champions Manchester City needed a late Martin Demichelis header to settle for a 2-2 draw at Arsenal while Tottenham Hotspur was denied a win as Harry Kane’s own goal earned Sunderland a 2-2 draw at home to the Londoners.
