Abubakar Atiku voting in Jada

Rev. Phineas Padio, the Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa, said the Sunday’s primary elections of the party for the election of its torch bearer in the 11 October governorship by-election was going on smoothly.

The aspirants contesting in the primaries are Mr Boss Mustafa, Sen Bindo Jibrilla, Sen Ahmed Barata, Mr Yakubu Tsala, Mr Emmanuel Bello and Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa

Padio told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the primaries were taking place simultaneously in the headquarters of local government areas of the state.

” The primaries are going on smoothly in the 21 local government areas of the state with the exception of Madagali and Michika whose venues were changed to Gombi Local Government due to security challenges.”

Padio said said about 6,500 delegates were participating in electing the party’s flag bearer from the six aspirants contesting.

He explained that the results from the local government areas would be sent to the state party secretariat in Yola which would serve as collation centre.

A NAN correspondent who monitored the exercise in Yola South Local Government reported that the exercise was conducted peacefully.

Also in Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas, the exercise was concluded peacefully in spite of tension in the town due to rumours of possible Boko Haram attack that made many  people to leave the town.

Similarly, in Jada Local Government Area where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar participated, the exercise was peaceful.

A check at the party’s headquarters, which was under tight security, showed that APC officials from Abuja were waiting for results from the local government areas which had started arriving.
