Governor Ibikunle Amosun of  the western Nigerian state of Ogun today declared his intention to contest for a second term in office under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The governor also appealed to all aggrieved members of the party  in the State to forgive him for whatever offences he might have committed against them, adding that no one benefits from the environment of discord.

Amosun: declares interest in 2nd term

Amosun stated this today while featuring in a live programme, New Dawn, on Rock City FM,  a private radio station in Abeokuta.

He said, ” By all means I will contest for the  second term because our people have shown love and I really can not thank them enough. I told you earlier that I take more than 2000 calls everyday. What does that tell you? They use their money to call me. It shows something and it humbles me. My colleagues will complain that they take more than 1000 calls. I’ll just keep my mouth shut. It tells me that we must do something more for them”, Amosun stated.

On the misunderstanding between him and the former governor in the State, Chief Olusegun Ososba, the governor explained: “On this APC matter, I will continue to appeal to the people: Nobody benefits from an environment of discord. Maybe we are disagreeing. So, I will continue to appeal. That is what I am doing. I will continue to appeal to all our elders because I feel so depressed”.

“Even in Abuja, where they  were discussing Ogun, I  begged and I appealed that you are our everything. Whatever he tells me, I’ll do and I am still saying that on air now to let me know what exactly is the problem. If I know, we’ll attend to it. I have been pleading and begging. How will anyone now ascribe violence to me, what do I want to benefit from that when I’ll have everything to lose.

“But to hang a dog, they will give the dog a bad name. I have done my bit and I am not in competition with  Chief Osoba. God knows. Chief Osoba will continue to get my respect and I will continue to give him that. And it is a covenant with my God. I don’t even have the whatever to fight Chief Osoba and I will continue to maintain that”, Amosun emphasised.
