Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku has been impeached and a new Speaker Hon. Helen Nwaobasi, elected by the House. 
Eighteen members supported the motion for Nwazunku’s impeachment Monday, out of 24 members of the House, while the motion was moved by Hon. Chris Usulor from Ezza South Constituency.
Nwazunka was impeachment following allegations of gross misconduct, corruption and incompetence.
Hon. Eni Uduma Chima Representing Ohaozara West, moved the motion for the election of the new Speaker Nwaobasi, seconded by Hon. Jerry Obasi of Representing Afikpo.
The House reinstated three members who were earlier suspended, before the impeachment of the Speaker.
