World champions Spain as well as the Netherlands this afternoon released the list of their final 23-man squads for the 2014 World Cup holding in Brazil from June, with Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo and Hamburg captain Rafael Van Der Vaart left out of the respective squads.

Spain coach Vincente Del Bosque left out Negredo, his Man. City teammate Jesus Navas as well as Juventus striker Fernando Llorente from his final squad, preferring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres and veteran David Villa who is set to join new Major Soccer League franchise New York FC.

Del Bosque however named Brazilian born striker Diego Costa in his final squad as well as Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata and Atletico Madrid’s midfielder Koke while Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara missed out no thanks to an injury.

Also set to miss the World Cup due to an injury is Rafael Van Der Vaart of the Netherlands, with coach Louis Van Gaal naming his final 23-man squad which featured the expected names along with a number of youngsters.

Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt and Nigel de Jong are among a host of experienced players called up by Van Gaal, who will leave after the World Cup to become Manchester United manager.

Also called up to the Dutch squad are Premier League goalkeepers Tim Krul and Michel Vorm, Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar, Jonathan de Guzman of Swansea City and Jeremaine Lens of Dynamo Kyiv among others.

The Netherlands face Ghana in a warm-up match tonight ahead of the World Cup, where they kick-off their Group B campaign with a match against Spain in what will be a rematch from the 2010 World Cup final which Spain won by a lone goal.
