Gezawa (Kano State) – The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) said on Thursday it had shut down a paint manufacturing company in Kano State over alleged adulteration and illegal operation.
The Executive Secretary of the council, Alhaji Nuhu Bello, who led a CPC team to the company’s site at Dausayi, Gezawa Local Government Area of the state, announced this to newsmen in Kano.
He said that a consumer, who purchased a large quantity of the company’s product and discovered that it was adulterated, reported the matter to the state’s “Hisbah” board.
Hisbah is the law enforcement arm of the shariah law.
He said the board referred the case to the council, which investigated and discovered that the company was not only adulterating paint, but was operating illegally.
According to Bello, the company is a local factory which has no licence of operation from any authority and has no definite name.
He advised consumers to endeavour to have full knowledge of any product they wished to buy, to avoid being cheated.
He also urged consumers, who were victims of adulterated or sub-standard products, to report the cases to relevant authorities.
