Premier League champions Manchester City remain without a win after two matches in this season’s UEFA Champions League following a 1-1 draw against AS Roma in a Group E match at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

Argentine striker Sergio Agüero put City ahead with a fifth minute penalty while Roma could have drawn level just a minute later when Maicon, who had conceded the penalty, saw his shot crash off the crossbar.

Belgian youngster Radja Nainggolan had an effort saved by Joe Hart in the 20th minute as Roma continued to search for an equaliser, which came two minutes later through captain Francesco Totti.

The 38-year old was put through on goal by Nainggolan, chipping over an onrushing Hart to become the oldest goalscorer in the competition with his first ever goal on English soil.

Roma continued to create the better chances, with Hart saving from Gervinho late in the first half and Miralem Pjanic early in the second half.

Substitute Frank Lampard had a long range effort saved by the Roma goalkeeper just after the hour mark while Pjanic was denied again by Hart moments later as both sides eventually settled for a share of the spoils.

The result leaves Man. City third in the group with a point from two matches, three points behind second placed Roma while Bayern Munich lead the group with six points after winning 1-0 at CSKA Moscow earlier in the day.

In other Champions League matches tonight, Athletic Bilbao’s poor start to the season continued in a 2-1 loss at BATE Borisov in Group H while Schalke 04 drew 1-1 at home to Maribor in Group G, as did Ajax away at APOEL Nicosia in Group F.

Wednesday night will witness more Champions League matches played, with the visit of Juventus to face Atletico Madrid in Group A the high-profile match. Also, Arsenal will host Galatasaray in a Group D match while Real Madrid visit Ludogorets in Group B.
