Revealed: Why Chike Had a Blistering Affair with Sandra

The news came not as a whimper but with a bang. Then came the leaked audios, the social media frenzy, the revelations and counter-revelations, the resurfaced interviews, cryptic posts, passionate debates across entertainment circles, and soon the story was everywhere. Not only did it become fodder for gossip, but it also trended across all social media platforms, eliciting reactions and counter-reactions.

The story is that Chike, a rising Nigerian musician with a voice that sends the insomniac to sleep and soulful music that makes women easily fall in love, had an affair with Sandra Onyenucheya, the estranged wife of TV host Frank, while she was still in her matrimonial home.

Still, in the swirling theatre of Nigerian celebrity gossip, few stories have ignited social media and pitted Nigerians against one another quite like the alleged affair between Chike and Sandra. Few stories have generated as much hoopla as this trending saga.

While the majority of women are pitching their tents with Chike — rallying around him, taking selfies with him, hailing him for his actions, and calling him the “Boo of the Booless” — most men are condemning his actions, dismissing them as a betrayal of the brotherhood.

Yet beneath the scandal and sensational headlines lie more intriguing questions: Why would Chike be drawn to Sandra, a married woman, in the first place? What did he find so special and alluring about Sandra that he could not resist taking the plunge?

To many fans, the answer is not blowing in the wind. It may have been hidden in plain sight all along — in Chike’s own words. The only problem was that many people either failed to pay attention to those revelations or did not see them as red flags portending something sinister and dangerous until it finally happened. And then all hell broke loose.

Long before Sandra entered the headlines, long before she became fodder for gossip, the smooth-voiced singer had openly confessed in interviews the kind of woman he is naturally attracted to.

The details are many, but Chike had opened up long before now. He had already laid his cards on the table. In a VJ Adams TV interview, he explained that, based on his dating history, he is more attracted to light-skinned women.

“So I would say typically, okay, based on my statistics, I would say that I am more inclined to light-skinned women,” he said. He also emphasized that good hygiene and smelling nice are primary requirements, more important than many other factors.

In that same interview, he said he would always go for financially independent women. “I want to see you in a nice dress, and I didn’t necessarily pay for it. And I know that another guy did not pay for it. Because when you don’t empower her and you’re not able to take care of her, if she’s an attractive woman, somebody else will. If she’s not attractive, somebody else will. I think that’s the worst for you,” Chike revealed.

Chike also admitted in yet another interview, though subtly, that he knows he is a ladies’ man to whom women are naturally drawn when he said that even though he has slept with over 1,000 women, he has never bought a condom, claiming that either his team arranges it for him or the women he dates come prepared with them.

“Since I blew, I’ve slept with over 1,000 women, but I’ve not bought a condom once. Whenever any woman comes to see me, she comes with her condoms. And even if she doesn’t bring any, my team provides them. They take care of me and make sure I never do it raw,” he said.

On another occasion, Chike revealed that he preferred older women because of the peace, calmness, understanding, and emotional stability they bring into relationships. He also explained that maturity creates better communication and reduces unnecessary drama.

“I like dating older women. My last two relationships were with older women because they give you peace, and I find it easier expressing myself with them… You can never see me texting a 23-year-old. Most can’t communicate properly.

“The time you start finding a woman who can communicate, they are slightly advanced in age. Not a girl of 23 years. Imagine I’m running around with some 23-year-old — what’s she going to handle? What’s she going to understand? She just wants to take pictures, be on Instagram, and tell everybody that she’s dating you,” Chike said.

And then came Sandra — elegant, poised, stylish, and fiercely articulate. If Chike truly values emotional depth and mature companionship, if he truly prefers light-skinned women who smell nice, and if he indeed likes dating older women, then Sandra appears to fit the profile perfectly.

Whether the rumours are entirely true or wildly exaggerated, one thing is undeniable: Chike’s past confessions about older women and light-skinned ladies who smell nice and maintain good hygiene suddenly sound less like random interview banter and more like a roadmap to the kind of woman who could truly capture his attention.

So whatever reasons those who support or oppose the much-talked-about relationship may give, the truth is that Chike appeared intentional about it. He was under no illusion about the kind of women he wanted. He had his preferences, saw his spec, and went for it.

And to paraphrase William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, the fault is not in Chike’s stars but in himself that he is an underling. And no matter the spurious reasons anyone gives as to why Chike dated Sandra, the fact remains that he knew what he wanted and went for it — if his past statements are anything to go by.
