The legacy of Sierra Leone’s greatest scientist ever, the first black vice chancellor of Fourah Bay College and the first Sierra Leonean President of the UN Security Council, Dr Davidson Nicol still lingers on in the country, despite his death on September 20, 1994.
His son, Dr Sylvester Davidson Nicol, an apotheosis of the late dad, wears his dad’s portrait and demeanour.
Today, he has established one of the leading medical centres in Sierra Leone. A specialist physician, who was trained and practiced in the US for decades, but returned home with a one-way ticket, to contribute his quota to the country’s development.
Recently, he launched the Davidson Nicol Medical Foundation (DNMF) in Freetown, where he provided free medical services, particularly free hypertension and diabetic treatment to the people.
The foundation is a breakthrough and a groundbreaking initiative, meant to support the poor and vulnerable in the areas of critical health services
Though his father died 32 years ago, Dr Nicol is determined to continue the legacy of his dad, through his medical centre and foundation, which he recently launched.
