Liberia has demonstrated its many firsts, to sail its flagship carrier, Datona Beach, across the controversial Strait of Hormuz in Iran.

There is currently a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, brokered by Pakistan, resulting in ships transiting across the strait.

Liberia has demonstrated its many firsts, with its flagship, emanating from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, navigating through the volatile Strait  of Hormuz

Liberia’s Many “ Firsts”

Liberia was the first African country to gain independence 179 years ago. It is the first African country to join the League of Nations, which later transformed into the United Nations.

Liberia is also the first country to host the then OAU summit in Sanie Quelle in Northern Liberia.

It is also the first country to champion the liberation struggle in Africa.

The Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most critical maritime chokepoint, connecting the Persian Gulf to the open ocean. It is vital for global energy security, with roughly 20–25% of global seaborne oil and 20% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) passing through daily, primarily from Gulf producers to Asia and Europe.

It has strategic and economic importance. Global Oil Bottleneck: Over 20 million barrels of oil per day pass through this narrow waterway. It is the only sea route for many Gulf countries (Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and parts of the UAE/Saudi Arabia).

Any disruption, often threatened during regional conflicts between Iran and other countries, can cause immediate, significant spikes in global oil and gas prices. That is exactly what has happened. With the triangular war of the US and  Israel against Iran, the country has been using that narrow waterway as its bargaining chip. Right now, Pakistan is the country that is perfecting peace talks to make sure there is an olive branch so that the energy-consuming world can breathe.
