The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police, in charge of Zone One, AIG Garba Ahmed, has presented cheques amounting to ₦9,260,204.88 to the families of deceased police officers who served under the Zone.
The presentation of the cheques was part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The event took place at the Zone One police headquarters in Kano.
AIG Garba Ahmed said the gesture came from the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare cheques.
The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries in recognition of the sacrifices of fallen and serving police personnel, as well as to provide financial support to their families.
A Statement by the Zone’s Spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Hussaini, indicated that “the gesture underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to the welfare and well-being of its officers and their dependants.”
The AIG noted that the disbursement was in line with the vision of the current police leadership to prioritize the welfare of personnel and to ensure that families of officers who have paid the ultimate price are not left without support.
He also commiserated with the families of the deceased officers, praying for the souls of the departed to rest in eternal peace.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for the timely intervention and pledged to make judicious use of the funds.

The Kano State Police Command has convened a roundtable discussion with members of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the State and brainstormed on strategies for preventing election violence.
The initiative was part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
The meeting, held at the office of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, focused on developing a comprehensive action plan to sensitize the public on the dangers of election violence and promote peaceful electioneering processes.
The interactive session, which was fully participatory, saw stakeholders discussing measures to ensure a peaceful and violence-free electoral process, and identified key areas of collaboration between the Police and CSOs to achieve this goal.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of collective efforts in preventing election violence and assured the CSOs of the Command’s commitment to working together to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the upcoming elections.
The participants commended the Police for initiating the dialogue, and pledged their support and cooperation in promoting peace and stability in the State.
Mr. Bakori assured that “the Kano State Police Command remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment,” and called on all stakeholders to join hands in preventing election violence and promoting a culture of peace.

Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on Thursday, distributed cheques amounting to N8,431,768.80 to 18 next of kin and a police officer, beneficiaries of the Group Life Assurance, Group Personnel Accident, and IGP Welfare Scheme.
It was part of the activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day.
The initiative was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The Kano Police Command Spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, hinted that the gesture, “demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of Police officers and their families, particularly those affected by accidents, injuries or death.”
The beneficiaries, comprising families of injured Police Officers, Officers who were victims of accidents, and relatives of those who died in line of duty, received the financial support as a gesture of the Nigeria Police Force’s care and concern for their well-being.
Mr. Bakori conveyed the IGP’s message to the beneficiaries, urging them to use the funds judiciously for their health and well-being, and prayed for the departed souls of the deceased officers.
The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the IGP for the timely support, acknowledging the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts towards ensuring that its personnel and their families are protected and cared for in times of need.
Mr. Bakori, however, said that: “The Kano State Police Command commends the IGP’s initiative and reaffirms its commitment to serving the community with dedication and professionalism, while also ensuring the welfare and well-being of its personnel.”
