Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Hon Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, today, witnessed the delivery of construction materials at Lungi International Airport.

The materials are meant for the construction of a congress centre, hotel, and presidential flats for ECOWAS Heads of States meeting in June 2026.

President Bio, current ECOWAS chairman, wants to leave legacy projects of hosting ECOWAS Heads of States in Freetown.

The upcoming meeting is significant in addressing current existential challenges facing the regional bloc, with three members, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso exited to form an alliance of AES states.

Since he took over from President Bola Tinubu, Bio has engaged in a series of diplomatic shuttles within the region to tackle burning issues affecting the regional bloc

ECOWAS was formed in 1975 in Lagos, and celebrated its 50th golden jubilee in 2025.
