Liberia, Sierra Leone Presidents Arrive Guinea for Mano  River Talks

Liberian President Joseph Boakai and his Sierra Leonean counterpart Maada Bio, arrived Conakry yesterday, for serious talks on border tensions affecting the three countries in the Mano River Union.

There has been lingering border disputes, particularly the Yenga town bordering Guinea and Sierra Leone, and trade disputes between Liberia and Guinea

The Yenga dispute is the most embarrassing and calls for urgent solution.

The Mano River Union was formed in October 1973, through the Malema Declaration by former President William Tolbert and Sierra Leone’s Siaka Stevens.

It was later enlarged to include Guinea, during the Presidency of Lansana Conte and Ivory Coast’s Alassane Quatara

The union promotes economic, political and cultural development among the four member nations
