*My decision to join APC is not selfish, but for the good of Kano people,” says Governor Yusuf

Mustapha, son of the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement, Eng. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has resigned his appointment as the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s cabinet.
His resignation followed Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) and his elaborate entrance into the All Progressive Congress (APC), with 22 House of Assembly members, including the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Engr. Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of NNPP and erstwhile political benefactor of Governor Yusuf, had termed the Governor’s latest political steps as “betrayal.”
Kwankwaso had told the remnants of the Kwankwassiyya Political Movement that January 23, the day Governor Yusuf resigned from the NNPP, would be tagged the “World Betrayal Day.”
Governor Yusuf was received by the immediate-past National Chairman of the APC and the immediate-past Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and other top officials of the APC, including Deputy Senate President, Dr. Barau Ibrahim Jibrin, into the APC on Monday evening during an elaborate ceremony held at Coronation Hall, Government House.
Governor Yusuf, during his speech at the grand reception, insisted that his decision to re-join APC was informed by the yearnings of the Kano people.
He insisted that his action was never for political interest, but for the development of Kano state and the entire people of Kano.
Governor Yusuf maintained further that he bears no personal grudges against Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
He promised to carry everybody along for the growth and development of Kano state in the new political dawn.
In a resignation statement earlier on Monday, Mustapha Kwankwaso said the decision was taken with a “heavy heart.”
He expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity offered him to serve the people of Kano State.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me,” he said.
The former commissioner also urged the youths of Kano State to continue to receive the support and attention they deserve from the government.
“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve,” he added.
He further stated that his time in office provided him with valuable experiences and lessons, and he appreciated the confidence reposed in him by the governor.
The former commissioner also offered prayers for sustained support for the youth of Kano State, stressing the importance of continued investment in youth empowerment and sports development.
