Edo State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Abu Tahir, who was kidnapped with his brother in Auchi, Etsako West LGA, on new year day.
The deceased, a graduate of medicine, was abducted with his elder brother, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, a medical doctor who is currently undergoing housemanship at the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
The two brothers were kidnapped along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, at about 7:30 pm, when the deceased stepped out of the vehicle to open the gate for his brother to drive in.
Immediately he stepped out of the car, the gunmen who were reportedly lying in ambush pounced on them and whisked them into the bush.
The kidnappers later contacted their family and demanded ₦200 million to secure their release.
According to a source, the lifeless body of Tahir was said to have been discovered at a riverbank during bush-combing by security operatives, comprising police, army, local vigilantes, and hunters.
He said the kidnappers abandoned the deceased and went with his elder brother, who is a medical doctor.
The source added that the victim’s family was still striving to gather the ₦200 million demanded for their ransom by their abductors.
He said the deceased graduated from the University as a medical doctor this year, but has not gone for his housemanship.
The State Police Command Spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the deceased was found dead in the bush by the police during bush-combing.
She added that the deceased’s family identified him as the younger brother of the medical doctor, who was kidnapped together.
