The newly elected Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Turaki Tanimu, alongside other elected executives, on Tuesday met with former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to re-strategise on the position of the party in Nigerian politics.
The former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs hinted that the PDP, during the tenure of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as President of Nigeria, laid the foundation for democracy to grow in the country.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Turaki vowed that, following the engagement with “Baba,” the PDP is ready to take up power and return democracy to the people, starting from Ekiti State.
“We came to introduce ourselves to Baba (Obasanjo) as the new leaders elected in Ibadan. We did not come alone; we came with other leaders of our party, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu; former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang; as well as South-West leaders and leaders from Ogun State.
“We are here to say thank you to Baba for all he did as a PDP President, for his vision, and for laying the foundation for democracy to grow in Nigeria. We thank him for assisting the PDP to build strong institutions, which contributed to Nigeria’s growth in the past years.
“We have not only come here to introduce ourselves; we have also come to take inspiration from the oracle himself. We came to seek his guidance, advice, and critical support because, if we must succeed in the enormous task entrusted to us by our leaders and members, such counsel is essential. We have spoken to Baba, and Baba has spoken to us. We are now more enriched with wisdom than ever, having realised that the task is not an easy one. However, with what we have gathered, we are ready to take power back to the people.
“I can assure you that the PDP is ready, and as a mark of our readiness, we are taking over Ekiti State. From there, we will take over the Presidency and lead Nigeria to the Promised Land.
“The PDP is on the rise, and the APC is more worried than ever.”
Meanwhile, the state Chairman, Hon. Nureni Abayomi Tella, vowed that what happened during the 2023 general election and subsequent bye-elections would not be allowed to repeat itself.
“We are back and taking charge in 2027. We will not allow what happened during the 2023 general election and bye-elections to repeat itself, and we mean every word. It is going to be fire for fire.”
