Okehi LG chairman confirms abduction of 5 persons as rescue operation begins

*As the Kogi Govt announces the death of 6 citizens in an accident

The wave of insecurity rampant in Kogi West Senatorial District has spread to the central zone of the state, where five people have recently been confirmed abducted by gunmen in Okehi Local Government Area, LGA.

The Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Amoka Eneji Monday, while confirming the breach, identified the victims as a retired policeman and his son, and a woman with two of her children. They were abducted in the Usungwe community of Okaito/Usungwe Ward on Tuesday evening.

According to the Chairman, the council received a distress call late yesterday, prompting an immediate and coordinated response.

It was gathered that he personally led a team of security operatives into the bush and surrounding areas to commence a search operation.

The chairman assured residents of Usungwe and the entire Okehi LGA that the administration remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that criminal activities will never be tolerated within the local government.

“Okehi LGA will not serve as a refuge for criminals. Anyone involved in this criminal act, or connected in any way, will face the full wrath of the law.”  The chairman said while reaffirming that the council will take the fight against crime directly to the hideouts of criminal elements, even deep inside the forests.

The Kogi State Government has announced the death of six of its citizens in a tragic accident involving a bus on Wednesday. The people returning from the commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities held earlier today at the Government House, Lokoja.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement, said thirteen other people were injured in the unfortunate accident which occurred along the Lokoja–Okene road. He said those injured are currently receiving medical attention at different health facilities across the state.

“This tragedy has brought profound sorrow to the Government and people of Kogi State. We mourn deeply with the families of the deceased and extend our heartfelt condolences to them during this painful and devastating moment. The loss of any Kogite is a loss to us all, and we stand in solidarity with the affected families and communities. This is indeed a dark day in our history.

“His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, has directed that the State Government take full responsibility for the medical care of all injured persons until they fully recover. Government officials have been deployed to hospitals across the country to ensure the victims receive the best possible treatment and to support their families.

“Our hearts are with the families who lost their loved ones, as we consider this a state tragedy of devastating magnitude.

“As we collectively grieve, we ask for prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed and for the quick recovery of the injured. May God grant the bereaved families the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
