“We Will Defeat Terrorism Together” – ECOWAS Chair, Bio Assures Tinubu in Abuja

ECOWAS Chairman, President Julius Maada Bio, held a high-level discussion with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on November 7, 2025.

Bio assured Tinubu of the readiness of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Force, domiciled in Sierra Leone and comprising member states in the region, to quell the rising tide of terrorism in West Africa.

The solidarity statement by Bio came on the heels of misplaced and misinformed international backlash, particularly uncoordinated statements from U.S. President Donald Trump and Congressman Ted Cruz on the so-called “Christian Genocide” in Nigeria.

Bio assured his predecessor of an imminent solution to the war on terror, which may likely spill over to other West African countries if not totally nipped in the bud.

President Bio is in Abuja on the special invitation of Baze University as the Commencement Speaker at its 12th Convocation Ceremony. He will also engage leading African business executives in a high-level investment forum.

Baze University, a privately owned institution in Abuja, invited Bio in recognition of his “visionary leadership and his government’s transformative investment in education, youth empowerment, and innovation policies that are positioning Sierra Leone as a model for Africa.”

Bio will lay the foundation stone at Baze University for the construction of the rehabilitated Postgraduate School, to be renamed “J. M. Bio Postgraduate School,” in recognition of his contribution to expanding access to quality education.

The Bio-Tinubu meeting was not limited to security matters but also focused on advancing regional trade integration and sustainable investment cooperation for economic stability, particularly reforms in policies such as the ECOWAS ETLS and aligning the AfCFTA agenda with ECOWAS economic programs.
