‎Just returning from UNGA 80 in New York, where he had several bilateral meetings and engagements with Liberians in the Diaspora, President Joseph Boakai has urged his people to commence developing local enterprises, to stop depending on handouts from relatives abroad.

Speaking at a intercessory service last Tuesday, Boakai remarked that, for foreign investors to come into Liberia successfully, they will be encouraged to partner with Liberians, for rapid economic development.
‎“ Don’t rely on $50 sent by your relatives out there. If you know how they earn monies, you will look inward to grow”, Boakai further remarked.

Liberia is rich in sub soil resources, but its people barely eke a living on daily basis.
‎The elites are canalised in the public bureaucracy, while those in the trading sector are in the infancy. Majority of local enterprises are in foreign hands, mainly Caucasians, Lebanese and Indians.
‎President Boakai want a change.

‎In interview with TheNEWS in August 2024, he remarked: “ Why wouldn’t a Liberian walk into a local commercial bank to get LC to import or export?

Liberians are eminently expressive and brilliant people, but the economy is still domicile in the custody of foreigners.”
