Sylvester Grigsby, two-time Minister of Presidential Affairs under former President Madam Sirleaf and President Joseph Boakai, died yesterday, 9 August 2025, in the US.

A seasoned and versatile administrator with an unparalleled quest for official duties, Grigsby was the gatekeeper of Liberia’s seal at the State House. All the President’s itineraries are in his custody.

He had also performed brilliantly as Foreign Affairs Minister, two-time Ambassador to Belgium and Germany.

Grigsby could not say something if he was not sure of its origin and contents. He was a man who could not jump until he saw where he was landing. Meaning, Grigsby was a man of thorough and sound intellect on issues of national and global dimensions.

Grigsby was sick for some time in the US. Madam Mamaka Bility has been acting in his capacity at State House.

When I met Grigsby at the State House in Monrovia on 16 August 2024, he exuded warmth and simplicity. He, together with Charles Snetter, facilitated my interview with President Boakai on the following day, 17 August 2024

Liberia has lost a great administrator, diplomat and close confidant in the presidency
