The governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule says his administration is investing in critical infrastructure such as roads to open up access for rural dwellers, farmers and business people. Engr. Sule explained on Friday, while flagging off the construction of the 24.5 kilometres Wambai-Waiye-Dengi-Alizaga road at the Wambai axis. Speaking at the ceremony, the governor said his administration understands the importance of feeder roads as enablers of the smooth movement of persons, goods and services. “Government recognises the significance of opening our rural roads, as it provides the enablement for the transportation of agricultural produce and other economic commodities from the remote parts to markets in urban centres.”
He noted that this informs the huge commitment that his government has made for the past six years, continued to build roads in local communities in the bid to actualise the ambition of creating new opportunities for people in such places. He said it is given this that his administration conceived and is constructing a about 25-kilometre road at the cost of nine billion naira. The road contract is awarded to Centrefield Engineering Limited, with the Nasarawa State Bureau for Rural Development providing direct supervision and oversight.
Governor Sule explained that upon completion, the road will link communities and expose the agricultural potential in such places. “This project, when completed, will serve as a vital economic corridor, connecting commodities and boosting agriculture, commerce and ease mobility,” he said, calling on the contractor to execute the project based on the terms agreed, including specifications and safety standards. The governor also appealed to the benefiting communities to cooperate with the contractor. “You are expected to protect lives and equipment, as well as maintain peace while the construction lasts,” he charged.
Engr. Sule said the road project in the area is specifically to fulfil the objective of providing inclusive development, as enshrined in his governance strategy. To this end, he said the desire to have an economically improved State and communities connected that drives his resolve. “The construction of this road is a testament to our resolve to leave no community behind in the development endeavour to ensure that development reaches the grassroots. We desire that we have a prosperous, secure and connected Nasarawa State,” he said.
