The Grand Commander of the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement ànd 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, on Saturday, declared that the Kwankwasiyya political bloc remained undefeatable in Kano, going by its investment in human development, through education, skills acquisition and economic empowerment.
Kwankwaso, a former Governor of Kano state, spoke at Northwest University, Kano, after receiving an Honorary Doctorate of Education (Honoris Causa), during the 2nd combined convocation ceremony of the institution.
He maintained that every politician operating with the philosophy of the Kwankwasiyya Movement is sure of getting the support of the masses.
He recalled how he founded the two state-owned universities in Kano—Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; and the Northwest University, when he was Governor of Kano state, insisting that the human investments carried out by the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement, has established it as the most popular political platform any politician can use to actualize his political dreams in Kano and across the North.
“You can not defeat the Kwankwasiyya Political movement. We are everywhere, and that is a result of the legacy we built. That is what you call real human development and real legacy. That is why Kwankwasiyya is standing tall everywhere you go in Kano,” he said.
The former Defence Minister said his administration as Governor of Kano state invested hugely in education, which resulted to thousands of Kano indigenes gaining scholarships to study in various higher institutions across the globe.
He expressed happiness that most of the beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme are lecturers in various higher institutions in Kano and across the country.
Kwankwaso advised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other sitting Governors across the country to invest hugely in education and human capital development, insisting that the Kwankwasiyya philosophy is embedded in ensuring that every child in Kano, and across Nigeria, has unhindered access to free education.
In his remarks, the Visitor of the University, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf regretted that the immediate-past administration destroyed all the legacies laid by former Governor Kwankwaso to ensure total emancipation of education in the state, but promised to revitalize education at all levels and keep the dreams and legacies of the Kwankwasiyya Movement alive.
Governor Yusuf further promised to complete all abandoned infrastructural projects in the University.
The Emir of Lafian Bare-Bari, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1, was decorated as the Chancellor of the university, during the convocation ceremony.
In his remarks, the Chancellor maintained that: “University education is indispensable to national development. This is why I am particularly delighted that this Citadel of learning, Northwest University, Kano is in the forefront of developing critical manpower required for building and developing our nation.”
Other eminent Nigerians who were awarded honorary doctorate degrees include the late Kano-born business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who received a posthumous honorary doctorate of Humanities; mother of Aliko Dangote, Hajiya Mariya Sunusi Dantata, who received honorary doctorate of Humanities; Alhaji Aliyu Sa’idu Bebeji, Honourary Doctorate of Entrepreneurship; and Alhaji Adamu Yahaya Maikifi, Honourary Doctorate of Entrepreneurship.
