Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed condolences on the passing of former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammodu Buhari.
The late Buhari, 82, who led the country at different times as a military Head of State and a democratically elected President, died in London on Sunday, after a brief illness.
“We have lost a great leader. This is indeed a monumental loss to Nigeria in particular and Africa as a whole” declared Governor Oyebanji in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.
According to Governor Oyebanji, the late Buhari did not only serve the country meritoriously right from his youthful days as a military officer, he lived an exemplary life of selfless service to the nation and led the nation at two different periods- as a military head of state and two terms President and Commander-in-Chief, where he put in his very best.
He described the former President as a patriot, a man of integrity and a statesman, who earned his place in history as an anti-corruption champion, and through his sheer commitment to the oneness of the country as well as his dogged pursuit of her socio-economic development.
The late President Buhari, according to Governor Oyebanji, had, at different period in his life, made some sacrifices towards the greatness of the country. This, he said had etched his name in gold.
The Governor expressed condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the wife, children and family of the late Buhari; the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the people of Daura, Katsina State as well as Nigerians in general on the death of the late President, who was nicknamed “Mai Gaskiya” by virtue of his high level of integrity.
The Ekiti State Governor urged the children of the late President to be consoled by the fact their father lived a good and impactful life and left behind a good name and legacies of integrity and service in his decades of nation building efforts.
He prayed that the Almighty Allah would forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanah Fidrus.
“On behalf of my family, the Government and good people of Ekiti State, Land of Honour, we commiserate with Our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the wife, children and family of the late President Buhari, the leadership of our party, APC and Nigerians as a whole on the passing of the immediate past President. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in aljanah”, the statement added.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his death as a colossal loss to Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said Buhari was a transparent, courageous and honest leader.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late former President as a man that truly loved Nigeria and contributed his quota towards her development.
The Governor commiserated with the immediate family of the late President Buhari and President Bola Tinubu over the death of his predecessor. He also sympathised with leaders and members of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), over the demise of one of the respected founders and leaders of the party.
“On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke, the people and government of Lagos State, I mourn the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, one of Nigeria’s most prominent military and political leaders.
“He was a courageous, disciplined, respected and passionate leader. His commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria is worthy of emulation because he provided honest and transparent leadership in the country.
“Former President Buhari demonstrated unparalleled leadership skills, patriotism, and courage in steering the ship of Nigeria. He was a respected leader who served Nigeria passionately in different capacities and leaving with unblemished records.
“He sacrificed the greater part of his life in the service of our dear country. He contributed immensely to the unity, growth and development of Nigeria and served passionately as Military Governor, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Head of State, and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander -in- Chief of the Armed Forces.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, friends, political associates and the entire Federal Government, Kastina State and the good people of Daura. Abiodun Mourns Buhari, Says Demise Shocking, Devastating
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has expressed profound shock at the demise of former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the news of the transition of the former military and civilian leader left him devastated.
The former president, who reportedly died while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness in London, United Kingdom, on Sunday, had been ill for some time.
Abiodun, in a statement issued in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said that even though death is a bill that all mortals must pay, the death of the former president came as a rude shock.
He described Buhari as a gallant soldier and patriot whose commitment to the Nigerian cause shone through while he held sway as military Head of State, and later as a democratically elected president, adding that his civilian presidency was enabled by his record as a scrupulously honest, no-nonsense General who believed that no national progress could be achieved without discipline and accountability.
He said: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari dead? It is hard to process this news at the moment. We had expected, like he did in the past, that he would pull through this time, but we take profound comfort in the fact that he left great imprints on the sands of time.
“Both as military Head of State and as civilian president, Buhari made accountability his watchword.
“Although his time as military Head of State had the usual elements of leadership style that are not acceptable in a democracy, it is significant that Buhari was able to reinvent himself and govern Nigeria for two terms as elected president, recording monumental achievements in infrastructure, from roads to rail.
“As a person, he was straightforward, affable, witty, and of a humble disposition. Even his severest critics will readily admit that he did not seek public office for personal gratification.
“President Buhari was particularly fond of Ogun State, where he began his life as a young officer, and was excited to inaugurate and celebrate the achievements of our administration.
“I commiserate with his immediate family, including his beloved wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, the people and government of Katsina State, the Daura Emirate, and the Nigerian Army.
“I commiserate with President Bola Tinubu, who has lost a friend and comrade in the struggle for a better Nigeria. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljanat Firdaus.”
Okpebholo Mourns Passing Of Former President Muhammadu Buhari
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, has mourned the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okpebholo in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, described the late former President as a true patriot, a disciplined leader, and a man of unwavering integrity who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria.
He highlighted significant contributions of the late former President to Nigeria’s development, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, and the fight against insurgency.
“It is with a heavy heart that we received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“His Excellency was a man of immense character, whose commitment to combating corruption and ensuring national security left an indelible mark on our nation’s history. He served Nigeria with uncommon zeal and selflessness, and his legacy of probity and patriotism will forever be remembered.”
“Even after leaving office, President Buhari remained a respected elder statesman, offering invaluable counsel and guidance whenever called upon. His deep love for Nigeria was evident in every decision he made and every action he took,” Okpebholo said.
The Governor extended his deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the government and people of Katsina State, and indeed, all Nigerians, during this period of immense grief.

Governors Radda, Yusuf mourn former President Buhari
Katsina state Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda and his Kano state counterpart, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, have mourned the death of immediate-past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a great loss to the nation.
Governor Radda said, “Katsina has lost its most illustrious son.” expressing grief and sadness.
Former President Buhari died in London at the age of 83.
A Statement by Governor Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, indicated that Governor Radda expressed deep grief over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari who died on Sunday in London at 4:30 pm following a prolonged illness.
“Today, Nigeria has lost a patriot, Katsina has lost its most illustrious son, and I have lost a father figure whose footsteps I have endeavoured to follow,” Governor Radda said.
Former President Buhari, who served Nigeria as military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985, and later as democratically elected President in 2015 and 2023, “represented the very best of Katsina’s values of integrity, service, and unwavering commitment to the masses.
“President Buhari was not just a leader; he was the embodiment of the common man’s aspirations. His people-oriented programs and genuine love for the masses defined his leadership philosophy,” Governor Radda said.
The Governor noted that President Buhari’s legacy transcended political affiliations, describing him as a leader who consistently championed the cause of ordinary Nigerians throughout his distinguished career.
“From his early days as a military leader to his transformative presidency, President Buhari never forgot his roots. He remained connected to the soil of Katsina and the hearts of its people. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our collective consciousness.
“As we mourn this irreparable loss, we must also celebrate a life well-lived in service to humanity. President Buhari legacy of putting people first will continue to inspire generations of leaders,” he concluded.

In a condolence message, signed by his Spokesperson,Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf paid glowing tribute to the late President’s life of service, noting that both as a military ruler and as a democratically elected leader, Buhari dedicated himself to the unity, stability, and progress of the nation.
“President Muhammadu Buhari devoted his entire life to serving our dear country with courage and sincerity.
“His steadfastness, simplicity, and commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians will continue to inspire generations,” Governor Yusuf said.
