‎US President Donald Trump, yesterday, in Washington, at the ongoing meeting of leaders of five West African Countries, Liberia, Senegal, Gabon, Mauritania and Guinea Bissau, remarked jokingly, on Liberia’s President Joseph Boakai’s fluent English.

‎Trump, further threw a banter that other “African leaders could speak clear English, often laced with disjointed messages embedded in their utterances”.

‎“ Where did you learn English? In Liberia”, Trump asked Boakai jokingly.

‎Boakai was asking the US assistance to bring peace in West Africa, through support to counter severe insecurity challenges in the region.

‎Liberia is an age old ally of the US, with it’s 178 independence anniversary a few days away on 26 July 2025.‎

The country produced Africa’s first female President Madam Sirleaf and currently, named the next new UN Security Council Chair, on a non permanent basis, 2026 to 2027.

‎Boakai, since assuming leadership in October 2023, has embarked on numerous development reforms, to bail out the inherited decrepit economy.
‎The vast majority of Liberians live below $2 dollars a day.

‎On July15, 2025, Boakai launched his ARREST program in the second port city of Buchanan, as a working tool, with the sole aim to change the deplorable situation he inherited.

‎A few days ago, Boakai signed the Food Act into law, to ensure that no Liberian goes to bed hungry.
