Former governor of Nasarawa State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura
would be a great fit to lead the Party into the 2027 general election and beyond. This is the position canvassed by Dr. Donald Amagbo, a political affairs analyst based in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

Al-Makura, the analyst said, posseses the requisite attributes required to build the APC into a formidable platform that can be unbeatable. He said the sudden resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as chairman of the Party, has offered a new opportunity to get someone with the experience, composure and acceptability to lead the governing Party, in the face of calculated opposition attempt to wrest power from the APC in 2027

“Al-Makura’s extensive experience, proven leadership and unwavering commitment to the APC’s ideals make him an ideal candidate. As Nigeria’s first and only governor elected under the defunct Congress for Progressive change, CPC, Al-Makura has a strong track record of leadership,” he said noting that “Party chieftains argue that his loyalty, humility and grassroot connection make him a natural choice for the APC chairmanship.”

Dr. Amagbo noted that the APC direly needs stabilization and direction as the next general elections approach. Therefore, a capable hand like Al-Makura, who represented Nasarawa South in the senate between 2019 and 2023 is capable of providing such leadership. “The APC is seeking stability and renewed direction ahead of the 2027 elections, and Al-Makura’s leadership would be instrumental in achieving this goal.” The statement read in part. The public affairs commentator noted that the former governor’s “leadership would restore internal confidence, improve party discipline and set the stage for a more inclusive and forward-looking APC.

The statement acknowledged that while the APC is yet to make any formal announcement about its vacant chairmanship position, Al-Makura’s antecedents as an advocate for democracy, having been in the National Republican Convention, NRC, in the 2nd Republic, stand him in good stead to succeed. It points that Al-Makura’s influence transcends Nasarawa State as his term as a senator witnessed nationalistic contributions to policy discourses and interaction with political leaders across the country.
