Police Smash Arms-Smuggling Gang, Two Arrested in Nasarawa

Two members of a suspected arms trafficking gang are in police net after their nefarious activity was uncovered by the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa State Command. The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Ranham Nansel, in a statement on Wednesday, said the arrest followed credible intelligence which led to the interception of the culprits.

“On June 4, 2025, at about 0309hrs, acting on credible, actionable intelligence, the Command intercepted two suspected gun runners traveling through Lafia in possession of a large cache of high-grade firearms and ammunition en route to Ilorin, Kwara State,” Nansel said in part. He said a quick response and deployment of men of the “anti-kidnapping unit” undertook an operation which led to the arrest of Dahiru Abdullahi, a 75 year-old man who hails from Funtua in Katsina State and his accomplice, Lawal Sani, 40 who is a commuter driver hailing from Makwalla in Katsina State.

Items recovered from the suspects, according to the statement, include: a general-purpose machine gun, GPMG, three AK-47 rifles, a TAB 06 rifle, 1086 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 20 rounds of 7.62 NATO calibre ammunition, four empty magazines, a Toyota Hiace bus, etc.

The statement added that the suspect “confessed to being paid N500,000 to transport the weapons from Benue to Kwara State – a transaction that could have armed multiple criminal networks.” It added that a full-scale investigation has commenced to uncover the actors behind the arms transaction, while those arrested have been taken into custody.

Nansel notes that the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, says this breakthrough is a note of warning to criminal elements that Nasarawa State is a haven for evildoers. He
