Senator Kwankwaso flanked by the retired military officers

Amid varying speculations of his next political moves, former Governor of Kano state, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has received 24 ex-military officers, who retired from their services in January 2025, after 35 years and decided to join partisan politics.

The ex-military officers said they were motivated to join politics after studying the political activities of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, a grassroots political bloc led by Senator Kwankwaso.

However, after debunking social media Statement that quoted him, refusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s purported overtures to dump the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Kwankwaso maintained that, for the mean time, he decided to restrain from commenting on national politics and issues.

Those close to the former Defence Minister told our Correspondent that Kwankwaso is, rather, busy rejigging the Kwankwasiyya Movement grassroots structures within Kano, and across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso officially welcomed the 24 retired military officers of Kano origin into the Kwankwasiyya  Movement at his mansion in the heart of Kano city.

The officers, who concluded their military careers in January 2025, after 35 years of service to the nation, declared their full allegiance to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

During their visit, they pledged their unwavering support for the Kwankwasiyya Movement and vowed to contribute meaningfully to its success in the forthcoming elections.

The delegation was led by Hon. Kabiru Getso Haruna, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board, who described the move as “a bold and strategic alignment that reflects the credibility and growing momentum of the Kwankwasiyya ideology.”

Receiving the delegation, Senator. Kwankwaso expressed deep appreciation for their service to Nigeria and welcomed them, “with open arms and a heart full of hope.”

He praised their patriotism and commitment, assuring them that their experience, discipline, and networks would be valuable assets in shaping a more progressive and inclusive Nigeria.

“This is a moment of honour. These men have served our country with integrity and distinction. Now, they are bringing that same spirit to serve democracy and the people through the Kwankwasiyya. Together, we will chart a better future,” Kwankwaso said.
