Senator Barau I. Jibril

The Kano Non-indigenous Youths Assembly (KNYA) have beckoned on the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Barau I. Jibril, to openly declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state, declaring their unalloyed support to ensure his victory.

This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of their first General Assembly,  signed by the General Secretary, Usman Abdullahi.

The youths unanimously endorsed the Deputy Senate President as the next Governor of Kano, citing his numerous empowerment programmes that have touched the lives of the less privileged and his determination to ensure that democracy succeeds in Kano and across Nigeria.

The Communique partly reads: “We endorse the Deputy Senate President, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibril, for the 2027 Governorship Election

Given the prevailing conditions and in our collective quest for a renewed and prosperous Kano.

“The Assembly has resolved to endorse the candidacy of the incumbent Deputy Senate President, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibril, to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Kano State.”

They described Senator Barau as a proven leader, “a man of integrity, and a seasoned lawmaker with an illustrious legislative record that spans over a decade in the National Assembly.

“A detribalized Nigerian and bridge-builder, Senator Barau’s inclusive leadership style, deep understanding of the needs of Kano State, and vast national and international networks make him the ideal candidate to take Kano into a future of hope, growth, and unity.”

The non-indigenous youths named Senator Barau’s achievements to include: massive constituency projects from road infrastructure, classroom blocks, solar-powered boreholes, ICT centres, and healthcare facilities across his senatorial zone and beyond.

According to them: “As Chairman of several key Senate Committees over the years, including Appropriation and Education (Basic & Secondary), and now as Deputy Senate President, he has championed bills and motions that positively impact education, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and good governance.

“Senator Barau has empowered thousands of youths across the 44 LGAS of Kano State with vocational tools, startup grants, scholarships, and employment facilitation. His programs are practical, impactful, and scalable.

“He is widely respected for building bridges across ethnic and religious lines. His political appointments, outreach, and empowerment initiatives reflect this commitment to inclusivity.

“From widows to internally displaced persons, Senator Barau has always responded to the humanitarian needs of his people.”

The Communique stated that: “One of the critical points of value the Assembly reviewed, for which they gave Senator Barau Jibril a high mark on the score-sheet, is the way he has integrated the non-indigenous people-group into all his empowerment programs and made them have a sense of belonging.

“The Assembly, therefore, calls on Senator Barau to heed the calls of the people and declare his intention to contest. The time has come for true leadership to emerge in Kano—one rooted in service, experience, and the vision for a modern, united, and prosperous state.”

According to them, “the Kano Non-Indigenous Youths Assembly reiterates its full commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose bold reforms and decisive leadership are gradually reshaping the nation’s economic and governance architecture.

“We recognise the far-reaching economic interventions being made across sectors—oil and gas deregulation, digital economy investments, housing and urban development, MSME financing, food security initiatives, and youth-targeted schemes under the Human Capital Development framework.

“These reforms, though initially painful, are laying a foundation for long-term growth and sustainable national development.

“We particularly commend President Tinubu’s consistency in pursuing policies that build a Nigeria where all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or place of origin, can aspire to a better future. As youths in Kano State, we resonate with this vision and believe he deserves a second term to consolidate the ongoing transformation.”
