*As State suspends monthly sanitation exercise

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata has called on Kano state Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf to ensure peaceful Sallah celebrations in Kano as the Chief Security Officer of the state, even as tension continue to mount with the two Emirs preparing to perform the Sallah traditional and religious rituals.
Ata, called for a peaceful Sallah celebration in Kano State despite the ongoing emirship dispute between Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad 11.
He made this appeal upon his arrival at the Aminu Kano International Airport from Saudi Arabia, where he had performed the Umrah (lesser Hajj).
A Statement by his Media Aide, Seyi Olorunsola indicated that the Minister was warmly received by a large crowd of supporters and well-wishers across the state, reflecting his strong connection with the people.
In his address, the Minister reassured the people of Kano of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of Nigerians.
He emphasized that national security remains a top priority for the administration and urged all stakeholders to work towards maintaining peace in the state.
The Minister called on the National Security Adviser (NSA) Mal. Nuhu Ribadu as well as key stakeholders and political figures in Kano, to act swiftly and ensure that selfish interests do not incite chaos in the state during the sallah celebration.
Ata warned against attempt by people who want to exploit the emirship dispute for personal or political gains, stating that the leadership of President Tinubu will not fold its arms and allow situation to degenerate before taking action.
He referenced the Rivers State crisis as a cautionary example, noting that any actions that could fuel tension and unrest in Kano will be met with decisive measures and will not be tolerated.
“The governor should be cautioned in this regard to prevent any actions driven by sentiment that could disrupt law and order among Kano residents during the Sallah festivities.
“The court has ordered the maintenance of the status-quo regarding the Kano Emirate dispute, affirming HRH Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero as the rightful Emir of Kano base on the the court injunction.
”The minister further noted that His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has formally notified the Kano State Police Command of his intention to host the traditional Sallah celebrations, which also mark the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne,” Ata said.
He reassured the public that all events would proceed peacefully, highlighting Emir Ado Bayero’s enduring reputation as a humble and peace-loving leader who remains closely connected to the people of Kano.Hon. Ata called on the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to exercise caution and refrain from politicizing public safety.
He urged him to uphold the rule of law and cautioned against any attempts to interfere with the divine will of Allah concerning the emirship position.
“Allah has chosen the right Emir in HRH Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero for the people of Kano, and no amount of manipulation can change God’s will. It is only a matter of time before the truth prevails,” he declared.
He also advised the people of Kano to remain calm and not support any form of injustice, assuring them that President Tinubu administration is fully aware of the situation in Kano and is committed to ensuring peace and justice.
“The President is a strong advocate of law and order. He will not condone incompetence or actions that threaten the peace and security of Kano State and Nigeria at large,” Hon. Ata reaffirmed.
The Minister then thank President Tinubu for his dedication to the progress and well-being of the Nigerian people stating that his leadership has been marked by a deep love for the nation, evident in the bold reforms, people-centered policies, and tireless efforts to strengthen the economy, security, and democratic institutions.
He concludes that the people of Kano State stand firmly behind the President with their unwavering support for his visionary leadership and commitment to national progress.
“Kano remains a stronghold of loyalty and appreciation for this administration” he statedThe minister offered prayers for continued peace, love, and harmony in Kano State and across Nigeria. He prayed that anyone attempting to incite division or unrest in the state would not succeed and will be put to shame,” he added.

Kano state government has suspended the last Saturday monthly environmental sanitation exercise for the month of March 2025, to pave way for effective preparation ahead of the Sallah celebrations coming up on Monday.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Mohammad Hashim announced the suspension of the end-of-month sanitation exercise.
According to the Commissioner, “the decision was made to allow residents to focus on the sallah preparation which is just around the corner. The government deemed it fit to allow people prepare very well for the Sallah celebrations.
“Kano being the commercial hub for northern states couple with the influx of other people from neighboring states for commercial purposes during this season, there is need to suspend the sanitation exercise so that residents will have ample opportunity to engage in Sallah shopping.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner further explained that on Friday, 28 March, the sanitation exercise for Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs, motor parks and market places will still hold as usual.
A Statement by Ismail Garba Gwammaja, Director Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, indicated that, “the ministry is committed to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, but also recognized the importance of cultural and religious celebrations.of this nature.”
The Commissioner also pointed out that the suspension of the sanitation exercise is a testament to the government dedication to balancing its responsibilities with the needs of the people.
“The end-of-month sanitation exercise will resume in April 2025. The ministry encourages residents to continue practicing good hygiene and sanitation habits during the suspension period and after,” the Statement added.
