* Four Years of Pain, Silence and Injustice

Four years ago, on March 6th, 2021, my son Abbas Itopa Sanni, a talented upcoming rap artist known as AybeeWon, was brutally murdered. He was a promising young man, a talented rap artist, and an ICT undergraduate at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. At the time of his death, he was on the verge of international recognition, leading the Naijaloaded Next 2 Blow competition, a competition that could have launched his career into global fame. But just two days before his victory was to be announced, his life was violently stolen from him. He was announced the winner of Next 2 Blow 2021, Abuja.
On March 6th, 2021, Abbas traveled to Abuja after being invited by one Miss Patricia Oghenetega Mowarin (Rebelwav) to join a music shoot with Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu (Odumodublvck). Both were members of a group named Anti-World Gang musical group. CCTV footage confirmed his arrival at New World Hotel, Utako, Abuja and his departure at around 9:30 p.m. on March 7th, 2021. However, Abbas never participated in the shoot, but his lifeless body was found barely 2hours after he left his meeting venue in Galadimawa Roundabout, brutally murdered on the night of March 6th, 2021—just two days before his victory was to be announced.
In the aftermath, Patricia Oghenetega Mowarin—the daughter of Retired Col. Oghenetega—was arrested but released under questionable circumstances, citing her asthmatic condition.
This single act by the Nigerian police threw a dark shadow over the investigation and derailed any real pursuit of justice for my son. The Nigerian police have failed me. I have asked for updates time and again, only to be met with silence. The Inspector General of Police, where is the justice? Why have I not received answers? Why is my son’s case treated with such disregard?
And then, Chungai Studio, the very studio that signed Abbas to a management contract, did nothing to seek justice for his untimely death. Dan Sanni, the owner of Chungai Studio, also strangely remained silent as a father, how could you remain silent? As a parent, it is mind burgling that do you not understand the pain and anguish I endure each day knowing that my son’s murderers roam free?
Abbas was not just my son; he was a beacon of hope and talent, a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. Now, he’s gone, and the people involved in his death have gone unpunished. My pain is excruciating, but so is the silence and injustice that has followed.
To the Nigerian police, I have a question that continues to haunt me, begging for an answer: WHY HAVE YOU FAILED TO SPEAK TO ME ABOUT MY SON’S DASTARDLY MURDER EVERY TIME I ASK FOR UPDATES?
Abbas, my AybeeWon, my son, my heart—your legacy will never die. You are missed every single day, and I will keep your name forever in my heart until my last breath.
