…partners French govt for hydro-tech in Danja dam

Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Genesis Power and Energy Solutions in London, United Kingdom.
A Statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammmed, indicated that the MoU established a partnership for developing, financing, constructing, operating, and maintaining notable energy projects in Katsina State.
The Governor noted that the MoU covered the completion of the 10MW Wind Power Plant at Lambar Rimi, with potential future integration of 10MW Solar PV technology.
“A 50MW power solution for the Katsina Green Economic Zone, beginning with an initial Phase 1 of 10MW and captive power solutions for at least five critical sites across the state,” Governor Radda explained.
Governor Radda stated that the initiative aims to provide reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly power solutions to drive economic growth and attract investments to Katsina State.
He added that the agreement focuses on addressing energy needs in the healthcare, education, and water resources sectors.
Governor Radda stressed his administration’s staunch commitment to “achieving sustainable development goals and tackling climate change head-on.”
The MoU represents “a significant milestone in its ongoing effort to build resilient infrastructure that will not only support Katsina’s immediate needs but also ensure a prosperous, greener future for generations to come,” the Governor added.
Meanwhile, Governor Radda has promised to address farmers’ post-harvest losses.
He led the State Government delegation on a visit to the Mini Hydroelectric Power Station in Heudreville-Sur-Eure, France.
The Governor, alongside his Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ibrahim Ahmed, explored the institution’s sustainable energy solutions for Katsina State.
During the strategic visit, the Katsina State Government established a partnership with the French Government and Oceans Energy to implement similar mini hydro technology at the Danja Dam.
“The mini hydro station visited in France currently powers over 400 homes within its community, serving as a model for the planned implementation in Katsina,” the Governor said.
Governor Radda also stated that the partnership aims to enhance irrigation activities and agricultural productivity while introducing cold storage solutions to reduce post-harvest losses faced by local farmers.
“Excess energy from the plant will be distributed to surrounding communities, extending the benefits of renewable energy to more residents,” he added.
Similarly, the Governor has announced plans to replicate similar projects at the Ajiwa and Zobe Dams as part of the administration’s commitment to sustainable development across the state.
“This initiative is in line with our dedication to integrating innovative energy solutions with agricultural advancements to create a more resilient and self-sufficient Katsina State,” stated the Governor
He further envisions “a future where the people of Katsina enjoy the full dividends of democracy, sustainable progress, and exceptional leadership.”
“This approach, spearheaded by Governor Radda, positions Katsina State as an emerging leader in green energy solutions as well as providing long-term economic growth and improved quality of life for its citizens,” he added.
