Senator Ned Nwoko has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the governing All Progressives Congress, APC. The Senator who represents Delta North in the upper chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly, noted that his reason for leaving has nothing to do with electoral ambitions and gains.

He explained that the decampment to APC was to align with a Party that pays greater attention to good governance, economic development and the overall welfare of the people of his constituency and indeed, Nigeria. Nwoko who spoke on Saturday in Agbor, said his new platform has demonstrated the capacity and decision to cater to the welfare and wellbeing of his people.

“I did not leave the PDP because of elections. My decision was made after deep reflection on the Party’s internal challenges and my commitment to ensuring that my people receive the best possible representation,” the senator who is renowned for his stance on legislative independence and economic advocacy, said. He emphasized that he is focused on delivering sound representation and supporting policies that drive progress in Delta State.

Nwoko’s defection to the APC has dominated the tide of political conversations in Delta North, especially Agbor. Some analysts speculate on the implication of his move as elections ahead of the 2027 general elections in the country. But the senator stresses that his decision was borne exclusively from his interest in the greater good of his constituents and not for personal benefit. Stakeholders and other political watchers continue to observe his moves, as it is bound to shape the political trajectory of the senatorial district.
