Governor Namadi and Badaru during the commissioning of the newly constructed road

The Jigawa State Government has officially opened the newly constructed 9.5-kilometer Auyo-Ayama road constructed by Alren Construction Company for N3.8 billion, as part of the state government’s efforts to boost rural development.

The commissioning ceremony was performed by the Minister of Defence and the immediate-past governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

Speaking at the event, Governor  Umar Namadi stated that at the request of local communities, the project was extended to Ayama and reinforced with structures to prevent flooding, expressing confidence that the road would last and benefit residents for years to come.

According to him:  “The road about to be commissioned today—Auyo-Hakudau-Kafardau-Tigin-Anauya-Ayama Road—is a 9.5-kilometer road constructed by Alren Construction Company at the cost of about N3.8 billion.

” It is worthy of note that, following popular demand by the catchment communities, we have extended the length of the road to Ayama and taken further initiative to redesign the road to safeguard it against the perennial floods this area is known for.

“This was done through additional hydraulic structures, additional embankment protections, and raising its level. We are confident that the road will last long, contributing to the socioeconomic development of the area and Jigawa State in general.”

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all the inherited projects across the state.

Governor Namadi added: “In the spirit of continuity in governance and our resolve to initially focus attention on the completion of all the inherited ongoing projects.

“I am delighted that today, about 90% of all the inherited road projects were completed and fully settled with an actual payment of over N50.7 billion. The only 2 remaining roads out of the 26 inherited would be completed in the coming weeks.”

Governor Namadi also said the state has launched 47 new road projects covering 977 kilometers at a cost of over N304 billion. Work on these projects is progressing well, with some sites already more than halfway completed.

“Let me also mention that in line with our commitment to accelerate the momentum of progress in the development of Jigawa State, we have, in an unprecedented move last year, awarded contracts for 47 road projects covering a distance of over 977 kilometers to be executed at the cost of over N304 billion.

“These include 17 regional roads, 15 feeder roads, eight township roads, and eight road rehabilitations.

“Even as we are performing today’s commissioning of Auyo to Ayama Road, all the newly awarded road projects are earnestly ongoing.

“A few months since the award of these contracts, I have been informed that progress ranges from 10% in some sites to over 60% in others.

“This unprecedented move was in consideration of the importance of good road networks in accelerating socioeconomic growth and development and in response to the yearnings of the citizens for whom provision of roads has continued to be a major priority,” he said.

Governor Namadi thanked everyone for their support and emphasized the state’s commitment to building more roads to drive economic growth and improve people’s lives.
