Kano state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has distributed 789,000 free school uniforms to male and female pupils in 7,092 public primary schools across Kano state.

He said the gesture was part of his effort to address the syndrome of out-of-school Children in the state.

Governor Yusuf flagged off the distribution of school uniforms for Primary one pupils across the state at Government House, Kano.

Under the programme, an estimated 789,000 male and female pupils in 7,092 public schools across the 44 Local Government Areas in the state received sets of uniforms.

According to him, the initiative aims to promote school enrollment and ensure that every child of school age is allowed to access quality education, thereby reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

He further stated that, in addition, the gesture will support indigent parents who may face financial challenges in meeting the educational needs of their children and further demonstrate that education remains the cornerstone of his administration’s agenda for even development across the state.

“By prioritizing the needs of young learners, the government seeks to empower the next generation with the tools they need to succeed and contribute positively to society,” he said.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling Kano’s education system, adding: “This is just the beginning, after providing these uniforms, we will continue to equip our schools with additional resources to improve learning conditions.”

He recalled that in addition to the uniforms, the state government has distributed 53,000 desks to schools, addressing infrastructure challenges that have hindered effective teaching and learning over the years.

According to Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa: “The initiative has been widely lauded as a game-changer for education in Kano, with stakeholders praising its potential to boost school enrollment, enhance retention, and instil a sense of pride and equality among pupils.

” Governor Yusuf’s intervention reflects his administration’s resolve to leave no child behind in the pursuit of quality education, marking a new chapter for Kano’s education sector.”
