The Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, on Friday declared that the State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is gradually becoming a full-blown dictator.
Aziegbemi stated this in a press briefing in Benin, on the heel of the impeachment of the Chairman of the Oredo Local Government Council, Dr. Tom Obaseki, by those he described as impostors.
However, he disclosed that those who carried out Obaseki’s impeachment were of no consequence as they were impostors who never participated in the Council election process.
He said: “Short of calling what happened at Oredo Local Government Council this morning a coup de tat. I can’t find a better word for what happened. What is going on in Edo under this Governor? How can he allow impostors to say that they have driven away the elected people in the Council?
“People that didn’t contest elections, people that don’t have certificates of return, they will just gather in one room and say they have impeached the Leader of the House l, they have impeached the Council Chairman, etc. And everyone is quiet?
“We have said this before our traditional rulers, our opinion molders, our religious leaders in Edo State. They’re letting down Edo people if they imagine that this is about politics. We should leave politicians to do what they do. It will get to a point where this sky will fall on everybody’s head.”
The PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman called on President Bola Tinubu, the IGP, and the DG SSS, to “Look at the issue very seriously and deal with it now that they can still deal with it.”
When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Fred Itua, declined a response.
