It was like the kind of drama caused by the late Muammar Gaddafi of Libya when he attended events outside his country. Yesterday, Burkina Faso military leader, Ibrahim Traore, caused a stir during the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s new president, John Dramani Mahama, in Accra.

Apart from storming the venue with heavily-armed bodyguards, Traore himself was armed with his service pistol.

When the crowd saw him in his well-starched, ironed and smart uniform with the side arm, they started shouting: “Traore, Traore, Traore”.

The Burkinabe leader tweeted on his X (@Ibrahiim_traore)
“Congratulations, President John Mahama, on your inauguration as President of the Republic of Ghana.
